Hot Trailer: 'John Dies At The End'

Here's a trailer for the sci-fi/horror film John Dies At The End, which was directed, produced and written by cult legend Don Coscarelli. Paul Giamatti stars (and is exec producer) as a shadowy figure investigating a street drug known as Soy Sauce, which promises an out-of-body experience with each hit, causing users to drift across time and dimensions with sometimes unwanted side effects. Magnolia's Magnet Releasing picked up the film in August and will release it via its Ultra VOD program in December.

Seven-time Best Actor Oscar nominee and two-time winner Dustin Hoffman waited a long time to make his feature directing debut. Here's the trailer for Quartet, in which the arrival of a new diva stirs up trouble in a home for retired opera singers. Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly, Michael Gambon, Pauline Collins, Tom Courtenay and Sheridan Smith star in the December 28 release from The Weinstein Company.

'The Hobbit': 2nd TV Spot

Warner Bros has posted a second TV spot for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. This and the initial TV spot released Tuesday appear to be the first to note on the closing title page that the movie will be presented in HFR 3D (high-frame-rate/48fps) as well as RealD and IMAX 3D.

'Iron Man 3' ' Hot First Full Trailer

2ND UPDATE: Marvel Studios just debuted its first full trailer for Iron Man 3 which will be in theaters in Digital 3D and RealD on May 3, 2013. Once again starring Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Don Cheadle, this threequel is directed by Shane Black who also wrote the screenplay with Drew Pearce. According to the official boilerplate, Tony Stark (Downey) this time has his back against the wall on a quest to find his enemy. 'Stark also discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?' Marvel's iconic superhero first appeared on the pages of 'Tales of Suspense' (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with 'The Invincible Iron Man' (#1) in 1968. Iron Man 3 is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is producing and Walt Disney Studios is distributing.

This Paranormal Activity sendup or something like it was probably inevitable. Marlon Wayans, Essence Atkins, David Koechner, Nick Swardson and Cedric the Entertainer spoof the found-footage horror genre in A Haunted House. Written by Wayans and Rick Alvarez and directed by Michael Tiddes, the Open Road Films release opens January 11, 2013.

Hot Trailer: Russell Crowe In 'The Man With The Iron Fists'

Russell Crowe is going in all different directions as he reengages in film starring roles. He's playing Noah for Darren Aronofsky, is a corrupt ruthless mayor in Broken City and sings as Javert in Les Miserables. Perhaps no Crowe choice left people scratching their heads more than The Man With The Iron Fists, a kung-fu flick for Universal that stars RZA. I'm always hoping to see Crowe play characters as memorable as Bud White in L.A. Confidential, or Maximus in Gladiator, or Jeffrey Wigand in The Insider or John Nash in A Beautiful Mind. His turn as Jack Knife in Iron Fists seems more in line with his role in The Quick And The Dead, but it is certainly good to see Crowe slimming down and going after it again. There are few actors who bring such intensity and testosterone to the screen.

Universal has released a new trailer for the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror film Mama. Courting the Latino market, the studio rolled out this English-language trailer with Spanish titles with Univision. Directed by Andres Muschietti, the supernatural thriller starring Jessica Chastain and Game Of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau opens nationwide January 18, 2013.

Here's a first look at Movie 43, a film that I've written about several times here, because I loved those raunchy 70s comedies The Groove Tube and Kentucky Fried Movie, and because the filmmakers who put this together, 'Peter Farrelly, Charles Wessler and John Penotti, Ryan Kavanaugh and Tucker Tooley'assembled such a killer cast of directors and actors for these completely inappropriate comic vignettes. Never one for subtlety, Samuel L. Jackson is front and center in a pro-President Obama and anti-Mitt Romney spot that is a takeoff on Sam's narration of the bedtime tale Go The F___ To Sleep, the one that became a big viral hit. According to the New York Post, the political spot was done in concert with a PAC called the Jewish Council for Research and Education, funded mostly by George Soros' 25-year-old son Alexander. There are a lot of Hollywood heavyweights behind Obama, but I doubt anybody will make as much noise as Jackson does here, particularly if this spreads virally the way his last bedtime story did. Maybe Romney better get Clint Eastwood on the phone for a counter:
